Camembert is an excellent table cheese, it can be eaten on its own, or used as an ingredient in desserts, sauces, casseroles and delicious starters like baked Camembert!

Camembert is one of France's most well-known and appreciated cheeses worldwide. The forms of Camembert typically have a diameter of about 10 cm and a weight of about 8 ozg. The crust is edible and white, with streaks and patches of a reddish color. The texture is soft and creamy. Camembert is sweet and savory and has a fruity taste and a musty smell.

After opening the Camembert, keep it stored in the refrigerator; you can wrap it in waxed paper or is in the typical poplar wood box in which it is generally sold; proper aeration of the product prevents the development of ammonia odors. It is an excellent table cheese, it can be eaten on its own, even better, with a baguette. It is also used as an ingredient in desserts, sauces, casseroles and delicious starters like baked Camembert cheese


You can prepare baked Camembert without box. Some people put it in oven inside the traditional wooden box it usually comes in. Anyway, it is important to eliminate the plastic package.

Unpack the Camembert and remove the crust from its surface by cutting it with a sharp boxcutter, trying to limit as much as possible the waste of cheese. Now, put again the Camembert in its original wooden box. If you want, follow the same recommendations to prepare baked Brie.

Baked Camembert with Honey and Nuts

Baked camembert and honey are a special combination. Spread on the cheese surface 2 tablespoons of chestnut honey, then sprinkle with some crushed walnuts, hazelnuts, almonds cut into strips; then grill the Camembert in the oven for about 2 minutes. Finally add the figs soaked in warm water for 10 minutes, drained, dried and cut into 4 pieces.

Baked Camembert with Truffle

On another Camembert spread the truffle sauce (or some slices of fresh black truffle), heat it for 2 minutes under the grill and sprinkle with chopped fennel leaves.

Savory Baked Camembert Cheese with Olives and Dried Tomatoes

On the third cheese put some chopped pistachio nuts, add the dried tomatoes well drained and cut into strips and some pitted olives. Then bake the cheese in the oven for 2 minutes.
